"Chamí" is a furniture project inspired by the cosmogony of the Embera community, who use beads to create geometric shapes from different colours and thus communicate the manifestations of the soul in the earthly world. It is important to remember that within their cosmogony it is stated that every being in nature has a soul, which allows it to communicate with others.
CHAMÍ means mountain range in the Embera language, which is of great importance because it represents the connection with nature that this indigenous community has. This connection is reflected in the movement, but also from the materials used for the elaboration, for this reason the design in beads, which apart from being a technique used by this community, refers to nature from the meaning of the colors. Blue represents the sky and water, while orange represents flowers.
In this project there is a fusion between the cosmogony of the Embera community and the work of the designer Sebastian Errazuriz, who generates pieces with organic movements from modules that make up the structure. For this piece, Chocoano cedar was used to create a contrast between the different elements that make up the piece.
This piece is made of Chocoan cedar, from modular pieces in the form of rectangles of 7 cm x 15 cm. This composition of modules was made to generate the opening mechanism of the doors in a continuous and scaled way, to give the desired appearance of fluidity.
